Detroit Lake (03038100) is located on the south side of the town of Detroit Lakes in Becker County, Minnesota. Detroit Lake has a surface area of 3,067 acres with a maximum depth of 89 feet. City owned concrete access is on the north shore and DNR concrete access is on the south shore.
Detroit Lake fishing is diverse and includes black bullhead, black crappie, bluegill, brown bullhead, green sunfish, hybrid sunfish, lake sturgeon, largemouth bass, muskellunge, northern pike, pumpkinseed, rock bass, walleye, white sucker, yellow bullhead, and yellow perch.

Detroit Lake is a very popular lake all year round. Visitors find the lake an attractive spot to visit because of it's clear, deep blue water, the great fishing, and nice sandy beaches. Detroit Lake is also surrounded by an abundance of green trees, campsites, and a variety of trails. Some of the various activities available in the Detroit Lakes area are biking, birding, fishing, golfing, hiking, hunting, freshwater scuba diving, and swimming.
There are a couple of options for camping on Detroit Lake. The American Legion Campground is located on the northern coast of the lake, directly across the street from the mile long sandy beach, and is walking distance away from many local restaurants and bars, beach commodities, the city park, farmers market, and many other local attractions. On site, the John Bridges Post 15 American Legion club is open for all campers with full bar, pull tabs, and food.
The American Legion Campground is set up with rental sites that offer water and electric hookups, rental sites with water, sewer, electric, and cable TV, and also regular seasonal sites. Campers can choose to rent a cabin, park their own RV, or experience the feel of the great out doors in their tent. Pets are allowed as long as they are not left unattended, are not agressive, and leashed.
The Country Campground, located on the northwestern coast of Detroit Lake. The campground is clean, green, and consists of 30 campsites that accomodate RV's of all sizes. 16 of the campsites are pull through, 14 are back in, and there is also the option to camp in a tent. Each campsite icludes soft water, electrical hookups, sewer, a picnic table and campfire ring, shade trees, 10 channel Dish Network, and WiFi.
Along with the fun activities of fishing and swimming in the lake, the Country Campground also offers on-site outdoor activities with no additional charge. There is a 1/2 mile trail circling the campground to walk pets, two fenced-in children's areas with swing sets and other fun toys, basketball hoops, a beach sand volleyball court, small golf course, and plenty of other activities to keep the guests busy and in happy spirits.
Detroit Lake is surrounded by a mix of interesting places to visit and events to enjoy. In the Detroit Lakes area, there are many attractions to choose from. There are 14 golf courses, an amusement park, a paintball arena, and a horseback riding ranch. Each summer the city of Detroit Lakes hosts the annual Becker County Fair and the Shrine Circus also comes to town. In the winter, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and skiing are very popular. The lake itself features it's mile-long city beach that usually hosts the city's Independence Day celebration and fireworks display.
Another feature of the surrouding Detroit Lakes area is the Pine To Prairie Birding Trail that runs through the town and is conveniently located near Detroit Lake. The Trail is Minnesota's first international birding trail, starting in Canada and ending near the Fergus Falls area, and offers over 275 species of birds to view.
